VFP FAQ
Foxclever Computing
  • What is FoxPro?

Microsoft FoxPro is a Database Application Development Language. The latest versions of Visual FoxPro provide a number of features that make it the best PC database application development tool available today; object oriented programming, .NET interoperability, COM support, native client/server support, local data engine and built-in support for other data-access technologies.

A clear distinction should be made between the FoxPro language and  the FoxPro/dBase database (DBF) format. Although the DBF format does have limitations, the FoxPro development language is not restricted to it and FoxPro can be used very effectively as the front-end to database systems such as SQL Server. FoxPro is not just a “database”, but rather a complete, Database Oriented, Rapid Application Development (RAD) tool.
